The 21st ‘Busan International Dance Festival’ will take place from June 5 to 8 this year.

This event, organized by the Busan International Dance Festival Organizing Committee and hosted by the City of Busan, will feature various performances and programs in multiple cultural landmarks in Busan, including the Sky Theater of the Busan Cinema Center and the special stage at Haeundae Beach.

This dance performance at Haeundae Beach will feature over 30 dance companies from 9 countries, showcasing more than 50 works. The event aims to express both artistry and popularity, contributing to transforming Haeundae into a ‘city of dance’.

Asian Premiere of 'Carmina Burana', on the Stage of World-Class Ballet Companies

The most anticipated work at this dance festival is the by the Hungarian Szeged Contemporary Ballet (SCDC).

This ballet is a contemporary reinterpretation of Carl Orff's famous cantata, directed by world-renowned choreographer Tamás Juronics.

This work has been performed over 400 times across Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas, and it holds special significance as it will be introduced in Asia for the first time through this performance.

The performance will take place on three occasions between June 5 and 7. The stage at the Busan Cinema Center Sky Theater will harmonize intense acrobatics and the beauty of contemporary dance, providing the audience with an unforgettable experience. On June 6 and 7, the dance festival held on a special stage at Haeundae Beach is anticipated by many. Various dance pieces of modern dance, traditional dance, street dance, and classical ballet will unfold against the backdrop of beautiful ocean, offering touching moments to the audience.

This year, particularly noteworthy are participation from world-class teams such as the Rosella Hightower Ballet from France, Tango Life from Argentina, and the LED Mascara Dance Group from the Philippines, providing a special stage to experience the cultures of each country. All performances will be free to enjoy, offering opportunities for more people to partake.







Korea-France Co-Creation Work Premiere

The project collaborating Busan and Cannes will make its debut at the 2025 dance festival.

This work was developed as part of the Interactive International Cultural Cooperation Support Project organized by the Korea International Culture Exchange Foundation. It is planned to be performed in November at a dance festival held in Cannes, France.

The premiere will take place on June 6 at Haeundae Beach and on June 8 at the Busan Cinema Center, which is expected to enhance the festival's value as an important symbol of artistic exchange.





Art Festival with Citizens... Diverse Street Performances and Workshops

The dance festival goes beyond merely watching performances. Street performances and open workshops will be held in conjunction with citizens at Gwangalli Beach, Suyeong Sajeok Park, and Busan Citizens' Park. Notably, ballet workshops with dance companies from France and Italy provide participation opportunities for the general public, drawing considerable attention.

Moreover, stages featuring local dance groups and youth organizations will also be set up, with a closing program called reviving Busan's traditional dance and sound. These programs are expected to offer rich cultural experiences not only to Busan citizens but also to visitors from all over the country.
